  • Familiarize yourself with this list of verbs. Give particular attention to the aorist active and aorist passive form of each verb. Throughout the remainder of this course, you will need to consult this list frequently. You can also find the principal parts for most of these verbs by consulting pages 91, 102, 103, 120,121 in your text book. (See pages 63-66 in the 1986 edition.)

    ἐμπυρίζω set on fire [ἐμπυρίζω does not occur in the NT, but does occur in the LXX. It is apparently from ἐν + πυρίζω, although I have not found evidence of πυρίζω earlier than the patristics. When combined with a verb that begins with β, μ, π, or φ, ἐν routinely becomes ἐμ-.]
    λογίζομαι reckon, calculate, [This is a middle/passive form you haven't yet learned. The present stem is λογιζ-.]

    • On page 99 of your text book, translate exercises 1-12 (Section A) from Greek to English.  your work. (In the 1986 edition, the exercises are on page 72. Omit number 11 as found in the 1986 edition.)

    • Parse the following verbs, identifying the tense, voice, mood, person, number, and lexical form in that order. Also, translate the inflected form of each verb. your work.

      Example:
      ἐβαπτίσθησαν  Aorist Passive Indicative, 3rd person, plural of βαπτίζω; "they were baptized".
